On the morning of 9 December, Professor Wang Jun, Vice President of the Institute of Healthy China Research of Renmin University of China, and Wang Yifan, Associate Researcher, visited Soochow University and started a discussion and exchange in the Finance and Economics Science Hall of the School of Business. The seminar was hosted by Feng Bo, Dean of the School of Business.
On behalf of Soochow University, Mr Feng Bo firstly expressed his warm welcome to Prof Wang Jun and his delegation and introduced the representatives of the faculty members in turn: Niu Mei'e, Chief Nurse, Han Yanxia, Deputy Chief Nurse and Wu Zhenyun, Nurse-in-Charge of the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University; Prof Xu Yong, Head of the Department of Paediatrics, Child Health and Social Medicine of the School of Public Health of Soochow Medical College, and Sun Hongpeng, Associate Professor, and Gu Kuiying, Professor of the Department of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene of Soochow Medical College; Wang Li, Head of the Department of Community Nursing and Director of the Community Nursing Teaching and Research Room of the School of Community Nursing, Hou Yunying, Deputy Director of the Nursing Research Centre, and Guo Daozha, Secretary of the School of Community Nursing; Ruan Yuhui and Wang Jiahui of the Department of Public Administration of the School of Politics and Public Administration; Professor Sun Junfang of the Department of Finance of the School of Business, and Wang Jie, Yang Feifan and Wang Xiaorui of the Department of Intelligent Business and Management of the School of Business. Feng Bo expressed his hope that with this rare opportunity, many parties can explore new directions of co-operation on the construction of existing disciplines.
Wang Jun expressed his gratitude for the hospitality of the college and briefly introduced the basic situation of the Institute of Healthy China Research of Renmin University of China. Wang Jun pointed out that the Institute of Healthy China Research is an interdisciplinary research institute built by Renmin University of China, both inside and outside the university, both at home and abroad, and since its establishment, it has continued to focus on three aspects: focusing on health action, researching on health governance, and assisting the health industry. In line with the major strategic demand for the construction of ‘Healthy China’ as stated in the report of the 20th Party Congress, the Institute has systematically integrated the strengths of various disciplines, faculties and research institutes scattered within the university through high-standard, interdisciplinary and multi-unit co-construction, relying on the continual improvement of institutions and mechanisms, gathering resources, and setting up a centralised, professional and high-level operation institution focusing on the study of Healthy China, to carry out research on health, and to develop the health of China. In addition, it will establish a centralised, specialised and high-level operating organisation focusing on Healthy China Research, and carry out scientific research, high-end think-tank and talent cultivation with a high starting point and high standard.
During the symposium, representatives of Soochow University teachers and Prof Wang Jun had a warm exchange and discussion. From their own research backgrounds and directions, the teachers from various colleges put forward possible directions of cooperation and ideas and suggestions on ‘Health and Wellness Industry and Economy’, hoping that the research on the economy of health and wellness industry can be taken as the core to help the development of health industry and the cultivation of new disciplines, so as to holistically and comprehensively serve the strategy of Healthy China through the combination of industry-academia-research.
